» nlhouser - Is politically correct thinking becoming "not" correct?

Today the policically correct controlling people seem to have nabbed control of the world, leaving the average everyday person out in the cold. Unless you don't smoke, don't drink, don't curse, eat only healthy foods, don't eat fast foods, don't drink pops, drink only healthy water, don't eat meat, run computers, etc., then you are on the verge of becoming obsolete. Where does this leave the older and less educated people who like the old way, and want to stay that way? We have become a "one size fits all society" leaving nothing unique or different anywmore. Rather blah, wouldn't you say?

You'd be surprised at what 'politically correct' people say/do when nobody's looking. Ah, to be a fly on the wall and watch them in their fakery.
.
Be who you are. Be real. Your world will never be 'blah'.

An expectation of politically correct behavior is just one more way of inflicting guilt on the innocent.

"Some of the writing I'm doing on multiculturalism has made it very clear that a lot of people think that everyone's opinions must be respected and, as the saying goes, 'are true for them.' There's some very dubious thinking behind this idea, and it needs to be looked at. Next Wednesday's article is on this issue. In the meantime, I'm rather surprised at how there've been no postings so far on my political correctness article."
.
I opened a thread on your article under the title of Logocentrism. And, I was surprised that you had not responded. happy I thought logocentrism was sort of a P.C. kind of thing. I might be wrong.
.
"True for them" is a strange concept, is it not? As though my thought that the moon was made of green cheese could be true for anyone. Plato wrote about that some 2500 hundred years or so ago. The truth, most likely, lies up ahead somewhere. Do we have any scouts out looking for the clearings? Otherwise, we have to uncover it as we go through the thicket. It's difficult to recognize when we must be correct about what we say and think.

Sorry; I didn't notice the posting on logocentrism till you mentioned it. I was looking too quickly at the first item. I certainly don't disagree with what you say, but there's one element that I thought would be mentioned by someone and hasn't been. That is how too many who talk about political correctness seem satisfied with just having people say the right thing. It's as if they've given up trying to get them to think the right thing. Remember the O.J. trial? Remember how a certain police official on the witness stand managed to imbue a PC phrase with all the hate and vitriol carried by the racist epithet he didn't dare use? I've seen numerous examples of that. Is it really all about appearances in the end?

I'm one of the few who didn't follow that show. So, I don't know the PC phrase. You'll have to explain it for me.
.
Something about that trial I didn't like.

Sorry; I have a lot of restrictions on what I write here that don't apply to people posting messages. Forget the O.J. trial. The point was simply that even the most "correct" term or phrase can become a code-word for the most offensive.

Some readers might get a kick out of this blurb on LOGOCENTRIST and they might see how it can lead to the idea that a person's rhetoric might be seen as threatening.
