» pink101 - A Recent Conversation

.

In a recent conversation with a college professor, I was struck with a statement he made about his incoming students that, he claimed, were nearly unable to even consider thinking for themselves.
.
I wonder if the problem being identified in Prof. Prado's paper isn't more a result of poor foundations in the K-12 educational system than it is in the colleges and universities. I can speak to some personal experiences regarding the University of Michigan which is one of the most higly accredited schools in the world. Basically, ALL the responsibility is placed on the student for learning. If a student wants to learn, fine, they will receive all the help they can absorb. If they want to putz around and be non-thinking adolescents, they will get all the opportunities that they can pay for.
.
I think the problems lie in the homes, churches, the dominating media, and K-12 educational systems of America.
