.I lived, year 'round, with my grandparetns in a cottage at a summer resort. My grand father was always involved in various business activities during the winter and he worked a small vegetable garden and raised chickens to supply the resorters who came in the summer. My grand mother was a shut-in and spent a lot of time listening to the radio and fixing our meals. No others lived within a few miles during the winter months. I attended a one room country school. All the students lived on farms.
I had the run of the resort area all by myself. I explored the woods, swamps, two lakes and their inlets. I was nothing if I wasn't curiosity itself. It was a wonderful childhood. Have you ever been out in the middle of a frozen over lake when you could look in almost every direction and see nothing but nature? I have. Recently, I've come to realize that it was that time from when I was about seven until I turned twelve that I developed such a close relationship with my self. And, I've very greatful for that. My grand father came out of the nineteenth century and I know he wanted me to experience nature. He told me that after he divorced his first wife, he went into the woods far away from civilization, built a little cabin and spent two years by himself alone with nature hunting, traping, fishing and reading.
How many people have been so fortunate to be alone by themselves in such a way far, far away from any cell phone?
To this day, I love to go into the woods exploring.

In response to Interesting Comments posted by pink101:I suspect many reading your posting envy you. And just think, you've got the best built-in test for sanity anyone could have. The day you go exploring in the woods and you take a cellphone, you'll know you're in very deep trouble.

In response to Interesting Comments posted by pradocg:I had a car phone in the early ninties and I have a cell phone now.
I use the cell phone so seldom that, recently, while I was getting my hair cut, when a phone started ringing, I wondered why the receptionist wouldn't answer the phone. Then the barber said to me, "Is that your phone?". I pulled it out and it was a wrong number. Does that tell you anything about me and the cell phone? Only three people have my number and the only reason they would ever call me would be for some very important reason.
